Technology companies IBM Corp. and Texas Instruments Inc. both reported a jump in earnings after the market closed Monday, but that did not relieve concerns investors have had about potential revenue growth.
Traders have not been focusing on bottom-line profits, but instead on revenue growth and forecasts for future improvement. That's because economic reports in recent months have shown the recovery is slowing, so there is concern about where future revenue growth will come from and how much it will eventually hurt profitability.
A report on the housing market due out later Tuesday is expected to show builders cut back on construction last month and applications for new construction also fell.

"Oil markets are still dominated by woes about the state of the economy, while oil fundamentals come second," JBC Energy said in a report. "To reduce the substantial slack in oil markets, a marked improvement in oil demand is required."

A government spokesman said slower growth will help to promote efforts to make China's energy-guzzling economy more efficient. But he acknowledged that exporters and small companies are facing tougher times.
"We face many difficulties in accelerating growth," said Zhu Hongren, a spokesman for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, at a news conference. But he said the economy should avoid a "double dip" relapse in the second half of the year.

The negative futures were already priced in at the open with the gap down. Since the sentitment was bearish from morning and money can just change hands, as the day proceeded there were sufficient short holders market makers could circulate the market to lower levels and clear their pockets.

broachoski [16:17]: New SV user here with a problem. When I load stockvision it loads data and all seems well but I can select the first stock and soon the chart comes up but after that first chart, none other will load when I select another stock. I am operating with Windowz 7, run as administrator and have tried setting as XP compatable. Any tips out there.
Andrew [16:19]: The What Works I think tracks at how strategies have performed since the market open, but it might wait until 9:40am or so to begin tracking. I can't remember.
Andrew [16:20]: I do think the What Works list ignores the overnight gaps to make it more relevant for trading intraday.

Gar [17:05]: (1) What Works has nothing to do with "charts" per se. It is a testing of several standard filters to see which one is currently making gains. I believe it pretends it trades the top 10 from each filter, and the one with the highest gains is on top. It starts doing this at 9:50AM until the close.
Gar [17:07]: (2) To move to another computer, you should simply be able to copy it there or download and it should work. You simply cannot login on two computers at the same time. If it isn't accepting your username or password, you are simply not entering the right one. If you forgot what it is, you can go to www.garsworld.com/forgot.htm and have it mailed to you. Or, you can go to Contact Us and ask me and I will send it to you.
Gar [17:07]: (3) The chart problem, where only the first chart loads. This one has me stumped. We have several hundred users and I have never heard of this problem before. I wish I had a better answer but at the moment, I do not. I will need to think about it.
porti [17:19]: @broachoski, i am experiencing the same problem at work. But we are sitting behind a Web content Firewall Proxy. It scans the data, before the SV data is passed on to the computer. This results in a delay that makes clicking through the charts nearly impossible. Takes about 4-8 seconds to load. At home theres no delay. Are you behind a Proxy Firewall?
