kotarah [8:01]: Early Floor Talk: Futures weaker ahead of dataEquity futures are lower this morning (S&P futures -7, DJ futures -46), following yesterday's choppy post-FOMC afternoon that left the major averages mixed on the day. The FOMC left the target range for the fed funds rate unchanged at 0.00-0.25%, as expected, and the June policy statement was very similar to the April directive. The biggest difference was the Fed's acknowledged that "Financial conditions have become less supportive of economic growth on balance, largely reflecting developments abroad." However, the developments abroad (i.e. the European debt problems) are well known by now, so that language wasn't viewed to be a major revelation for the markets. As such, the post-Fed trading action was choppy, with the major averages finishing the day at about the same spot they were prior to the release of the FOMC statement.
Overseas markets generally fell overnight, with European stocks (FTSE -0.6%, CAC -1.0%, DAX -0.6%) showing consistent losses, led by weakness in Greece (ASE -2.4%). Greece's bonds also fell further today, with yields rising another 8 bps to 10.4%; this compares to the German bund yield of 2.6%. The euro is weaker vs. the dollar, -0.0034 at $1.2277. Asian stocks were more mixed (Nikkei +0.1%, Hang Seng -0.6%, Shanghai -0.1%), with Japanese export data helping its market outperform in Asia. Australian stocks were flat after the country's prime minister Kevin Rudd stepped down and will be replaced by Julia Gillard. This move could be seen as a positive development for mining companies, as Rudd had been in support of the mining tax that was expected to affect the likes of BHP and RTP.
U.S. corporate newsflow is light this morning, although homebuilder LEN reported mixed earnings and food company CAG reported results slightly below expectations. Later this morning May Durable Orders and Weekly Jobless Claims data could change the picture when they are released at 8:30 ET.

kotarah [8:03]: 08:02 S&P futures vs fair value: -8.50. Nasdaq futures vs fair value: -17.30.More selling among overseas markets and a pullback by the euro have weighed on domestic stock futures, such that a markedly lower start to trade looks to be in order. The latest batch of earnings results haven’t done much to prop up the tone of premarket trade. Nike (NKE) reported in-line earnings, but saw a 7% year-over-year rise in futures orders. Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) brought in better-than-expected earnings, but issued downside guidance. Homebuilder Lennar (LEN) posted an upside surprise of its own, but it stated that new orders are down 10% year-over-year. That statement follows a housing report yesterday that showed new home sales fell to their worst rate on record. In terms of the latest data, durable goods orders for May are due at the bottom of the hour, as are the latest lot of weekly jobless claims. Natural gas inventory data will be released at 10:30 AM ET. Results from an auction of 7-year Treasury Notes are due at 1:00 PM ET.

While no one was expecting a change in the rate, verbiage in the FOMC statement underscored increasing concerns over the strength of the economic recovery. Specifically, the Fed stated that financial conditions have become less supportive of growth, where before it had said they were "supportive".

Hoecake [16:06]: I think rimm will miss....if they dont I will be surprised.
Andrew [16:06]: ...kicking myself over not holding AAPL long-term when I bought it at 90.00 in March 2009, lol
rw [16:06]: I bought several times - at 79 or less
Gar [16:06]: Yeah but Andrew how could you have possibly known? AAPL defies gravity.
madriver [16:07]: appl...that would of been a nice hold
rw [16:07]: Yes aapl trades on emotion an emotional stock
rko [16:07]: I know, I had AAPL at 80. Sold it at 190
Treacherous_Cretin [16:07]: another steve jobs health scare could send it off a cliff
madriver [16:07]: rw......people fall in love with jobs and apple eventually might get burned..who knows
Andrew [16:07]: I also had BIDU at 20.00 and took just a relatively small gain on it. I think I'm better at day trading than longer-term trading.
rw [16:08]: Right Madriver
madriver [16:08]: bidu....at 20 holding cow....like to have that one back
Hemi [16:08]: I but aapl @ 18.00 sold last year 105
rko [16:08]: What was the number on ORCL?
Treacherous_Cretin [16:08]: if you know what you are doing, you can make a lot more with short term trade than you can buying and holding
rw [16:09]: TC Have you heard from Tradzer??
Andrew [16:09]: Wow, nice job Hemi. Hard to argue with those profits.
Treacherous_Cretin [16:09]: no
Treacherous_Cretin [16:09]: I sent him an email but he has not replied
rw [16:10]: No One has.....I hope he is ok - I think him and the Mrs. were not in best of health....Same here....I have sent him e mails
Treacherous_Cretin [16:10]: he may have finally got that boat and gone sailing
rw [16:10]: Yes - I hope they are ok.
madriver [16:10]: oracle topped forcasts
rw [16:11]: That should bring nas up tomorrow
madriver [16:12]: bp took it on the chin again today.....that one is up in the air. if a nice big storm hits the Gulf I think you can kiss BP goodbye
madriver [16:13]: I should say if a big storm hits
Andrew [16:13]: Is it true that one of their robots messed up the cap?
Treacherous_Cretin [16:13]: orcl never gives guidance until the conference call
Treacherous_Cretin [16:13]: that's where the fun starts
madriver [16:13]: orcle up about fifty cents right now
rw [16:14]: See you all tomorrow.
madriver [16:14]: i think one of the robots bumped the cap and screwed things up.
madriver [16:14]: it wasn't working for about 2 or 3 days I think
rko [16:15]: BP will go to the highest bidder
rko [16:19]: RIMM hit the high water mark... now watch it sell off -- go figure
madriver [16:21]: gotta believe aapl will do the same thing
Treacherous_Cretin [16:22]: bye bye rimm
Andrew [16:22]: short ORCL 22.86, paper trade
madriver [16:22]: orcl is up 2.75% right now
Treacherous_Cretin [16:23]: it never really moves much
Andrew [16:23]: If it doesn't have good guidance it might see some selling since it went up a bit already.
madriver [16:27]: where is apple
madriver [16:28]: how do you get an "analyst" job....I want one.....that has to be the best job
Andrew [16:30]: I think a lot of analysts got laid off in 2008-2009
madriver [16:30]: lol
Andrew [16:30]: Majoring in economics at a top university is a good start though
madriver [16:31]: my guess if you're not a good trader you become an analyst
Andrew [16:31]: yeah probably
Treacherous_Cretin [16:32]: never understood why anyone listens to them
madriver [16:33]: me neither but you can certainly play off the people that do
madriver [16:33]: someone at apple should wake up and report
Andrew [16:34]: added to ORCL short 23.20, paper trade
madriver [16:35]: I guess if you want ot refi or buy this is a good time
Andrew [16:35]: It's now up to the range where there has been a lot of selling recently
Treacherous_Cretin [16:36]: I don't think aapl reports today do they
Andrew [16:36]: They don't for a really long time
Treacherous_Cretin [16:36]: seems like they already did in april
Andrew [16:37]: HRB and ORCL are the 2 main ones this afternoon I think
madriver [16:38]: sorry I thought they were
kotarah [16:39]: AAPL WHEN THIS HITS THE PAPERS... 20 minutes ago Wow - when all these issues come to light tonight/tomorrow - I suspect a serious reversal coming.
- Faulty/pathetic antenna
- Yellow spots on the screen
- Poor quality/workmanship
A nice front page article in the Journal should be worth about 20 points or so to the downside.
Watch the momentum players start running with all these problems/issues. They're the guys responsible for the last 35 points to the upside.
What does all this mean? Joy for the shorts and a lot of misery(and defective phones) for the shareholders
madriver [16:42]: at&t might be a nice short
madriver [16:42]: if apple 4 sucks.....I've heard some rumor stuff that kotarah mentioned above
madriver [16:43]: jobs at it again.....giving us what he thinks we need
kotarah [16:43]: that is not me it was posted on Yahoo
madriver [16:44]: yeah....kotarah...I also just read on CNBC site
kotarah [16:44]: AALp target raised $355
madriver [16:44]: time will tell
madriver [16:44]: night all
kotarah [16:44]: definately not a plus
Andrew [16:44]: Well very few people have actually felt negative about AAPL to actually short it.
Treacherous_Cretin [16:50]: all that crap doesn't matter. All you can trade is the chart.
Treacherous_Cretin [16:50]: at least that is all I would trade
Andrew [16:51]: To me, its chart says, 'buy on any deep pullback you come across.'
Treacherous_Cretin [16:52]: yeah, but if the market really rolls over then aapl will be a short like everything else
Andrew [16:56]: Yeah, good point
Treacherous_Cretin [16:59]: be interesting to see how the fed's softened outlook gets factored into GDP tomoorw
Treacherous_Cretin [17:00]: stupid bernanke was revising gdp upwards for second half recently
Treacherous_Cretin [17:00]: now at least his track record is unblemished
Treacherous_Cretin [17:01]: 100% wrong
Treacherous_Cretin [17:07]: bye folks
rw [17:59]: TC what is the guy's name that used to enjoy hunting baby seals? I forgot...
Andrew [18:34]: out ORCL -0.3%
